Top four telecom operators reported data usage of 1,507.78 billion MB in the last four quarters. Overall data consumption increased 46% year-on-year and 4% quarter-on-quarter for the quarter ended 31st March 2016. Total data traffic increased to 419.6 Bn MB, which is 5.5 times higher than the total data traffic in Q4-FY13.
Reliance Communication’s Data consumption has increased 20% year-on-year and 2% quarter-on-quarter. It has increased every quarter since RCOM began disclosing this data.
Vodafone reported data usage of 314.2 billion MB in the last four quarters. Overall data consumption increased 47% year-on-year and 1% quarter-on-quarter.
Idea’s total data volume has increased to 82 Bn MB, up 1.5% from 81 Bn MB between December 2015 and March 2016. Total data connections increased to 44 million from 41.4 million.
In Q1-FY13, Reliance Communication’s data traffic was 15.8 Bn MB, higher than Airtel. From Q4-FY15 onwards, Airtel’s data traffic went up much higher rate than Reliance Communication and became 40% high in Q4-FY16.
A growing 3G base appears to have contributed to a growth in data usage.
