Earlier this month, Amit Singhal (on twitter), one of Google's key engineering executives, who has worked in the field of search for over fifteen years, was in Delhi. Singhal works with Google's Search Quality team, which is responsible for search algorithms. He's been with Google since 2000. Among other things, MediaNama spoke with Singhal on differences between Mobile & Online Search, Voice Search, Social Search (including potential competition in search from Facebook's Open Graph), Search vs (Black Hat) SEO, Video Search, and what to expect from Search in the next year. Also, don't miss his comment on competition from vertical search from Bing. On hindsight, one topic which we didn't ask Singhal about, is the challenge of real-time search, and how it works.
