NASDAQ-listed Sify Technologies has appointed C.R Rao as its Chief Operating Officer (COO). Rao replaces CVS Suri who has been Sify's COO since August 2006. The company said that Rao will be responsible for all operational and delivery duties across Sify’s multiple businesses. Prior to this appointment, Rao was serving as the company's Vice President – Strategy, Admin & HR and has been with Sify since 2009. Before this, Rao has worked with Delta Tubes Pvt. Ltd. and Bobba Aviation Services - GSA Lufthansa Cargo. Last month, Sify Technologies had reported total revenue of Rs 857 crore for the year ended March 31, 2013, registering a 11.3% growth over last year. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 47.7 crore for the year, a significant improvement from Rs 38.5 crore loss in the previous year. However, its worth noting that the net profit included a one-time gain of Rs 65.8 crore from a stake sale in an associate company, indicating that the company had actually generated a net loss of Rs 18.1 crore for the year. In the same month, Sify had also launched an iOS app for its Samachar.com news portal, allowing users to browse through news aggregated from various sources. The app was available as a free download on the iTunes store.
