Swiggy expands to Ahmedabad, charges delivery fee

Swiggy has expanded its food ordering and delivery service in Ahmedabad, after Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. It currently delivers across areas such as Prahladnagar, Vastrapur, and Navrangpura in Ahmedabad, and have partnered with around 300 restaurants in the city currently. While the company said in a statement that there are no restrictions on the minimum order value, it will charge a delivery fee if the order size is low-value. We tried ordering from Ahmedabad's McDonald via Swiggy, and it showed delivery charges of Rs 30 in the checkout summary. Food-delivery race Swiggy currently competes with players like Zomato and UberEATS, which are looking to capture food-delivery market. Online cab aggregator Uber launched its food delivery service UberEATs in Mumbai in June 2017, and then later expanded to Gurgaon, Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Zomato had started its online ordering service back in March 2015, while Swiggy was founded in August 2014. Swiggy is currently available in 8 cities (including Ahmedabad), and Zomato's food delivery is currently live in 15 cities in India. For the month of July, Zomato surpassed 3 million online orders, also reported food ordering revenues of $9 million for the financial year ended 31st March 2017 (FY17), around 8 times of FY16. Swiggy’s claims to stand ahead of Zomato with  4 million orders per month.
