YuppTV wins rights to broadcast ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in Europe and Canada

YuppTV, a global streaming service for South Asian content, has won the digital rights for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 for Canada and non-exclusive digital rights for Continental Europe. YuppTV will stream the tournament in Canada and Continental Europe, excluding Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In India, Hotstar will stream the championship, while Star channels and Doordarshan will telecast it; DD National will only telecast games where India is playing. Last August, YuppTV bought the rights to the India vs West Indies T20 series for the US, Canada and Caribbean islands territories -- only games involving India were livestreamed. The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is a tournament of eight cricket-playing countries: India, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka, England, and Bangladesh. The 18 days-long event will start on June 1, with a few warm-up games scheduled till then (India won a warm-up with New Zealand yesterday). Recent YuppTV developments -- YuppTV launched a streaming device in April named Freedocast. -- The company recently released Telugu webseries Endukila? ('How Come?'), its first original show. -- The company raised $50 million last October from Emerald Media, a Pan-Asian investment firm. -- They partnered with USP Studios for kids' content last December.
