Shailesh Rao, VP – Asia Pacific, Latin America & Emerging Markets at Twitter has quit the company. Rao will be leaving Twitter by the end of July, he said in a tweet. Rao had joined Twitter from Google four and half years ago, in April 2012, where he had been the Managing Director for (media & platforms) for Google Asia Pacific, before which he had been the MD for Google India. Rao had been with Google for around 10 years.

Under Rao’s his watch, Twitter established operations in India: his former Google colleague Rishi Jaitley joined Twitter in November 2012 to set up an India team. Twitter now has an Ad sales, policy and government, sports and media relations functions specific for India. In the past, Rao has also worked with Yodlee and AOL.

We’ve written to twitter for details on who will take over Rao’s responsibilities and will update when we have more.
