Reliance Jio has appointed Shamik Das as its chief corporate development officer, reports ET Tech. In his new position Das will report to Pankaj Pawar, a key member of Reliance’s retail and telecom business, and will be responsible for assessing customer readiness for 4G data in cities where Jio will roll out 4G voice and data services. Prior to this, Das was the joint president and chief strategy officer for Reliance Communications for over 2 years, where he was responsible for business development, technology and spectrum strategy, and to achieve the annual revenues target in GSM, 3G and CDMA businesses. He also oversaw all geographical units under the wireless business unit after Syed Safawi, the former wireless business unit head, left the company in 2012. Das also worked as the CEO of Batelco for over 2 years, where he was responsible for setting up a new telecom brand. Before this, Das was the CEO at Bharti Airtel where he worked for over 15 years in various positions including CEO/COO of Airtel’s southern operations and national CFO of Airtel mobile business. At Airtel, he was responsible for strategizing, planning and launching of a pan Indian mobile service operations. Prior to Airtel, Das worked as the finance administrator at Pearson and as a management executive as Asea Brown Boveri.
