After releasing the most viewed India ads for 2013 last week, Google’s YouTube has unveiled its annual list of top trending videos and top music videos for the year with YouTube Rewind 2013.
This list is formulated based on the total number of views generated by the video combined with shares, likes and comments it received. Here are some of India-specific trends mentioned in YouTube Rewind 2013:
Top Trending YouTube Videos
The theatrical trailer of the Bollywood superhero move ‘Krrish 3‘ was the top trending YouTube video in India, followed by the teaser video of the upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom 3‘ and the Telugu short film ‘The Viva‘.
While YouTube hasn’t disclosed any break-up of Indian viewership for these videos, Krrish 3 has clocked a total 19.96 million views at the time of writing this article, while Dhoom 3 has clocked 13.82 million views and The Viva has clocked 3.72 million views.
Interestingly, web-exclusive content has also found a place in the list, with ‘Gangs of Social Media : Valentine’s Day Q-tiyapa‘, a gag based on the Bollywood movie ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ by The Viral Fever securing the ninth position in the list. The video has clocked a total 1.8 million views as of now.
Others in the list include TV show episodes from Colors TV’s ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil‘ (fourth place) and MTV India’s ‘Roadies X‘ (eight place), compilations like top 10 cricket catches (sixth place), thirty nursery rhymes (tenth place) and videos that went viral like National Geographic’s ‘Jaguar attacks Crocodile‘ (fifth place) and ‘Russian Navy Hovercraft Lands On Busy Beach‘ (seventh place).
What’s also noteworthy here is how the list of top trending videos has diversified to other segments from being Bollywood-centric last year, wherein Bollywood-related videos had accounted for seven of the top ten spots. In the current year, Bollywood was limited to only the top two positions.
Top Trending Music Videos
Bollywood accounted for six of the top spots in the top trending music videos with two spots taken by Indian music artists and the remaining two spots taken by International music artists.
Jeene Laga Hoon from Ramaiya Vastavaiya was the top trending music video for 2013, followed by Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop and Aashiqui 2’s Sun Raha Hai Na Tu.
Others in the list include Bollywood songs like Aashiqui 2’s Tum Hi Ho (fourth place), Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’s Balam Pichkari (fifth place) and Badtameez Dil (seventh place) and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’s Nagada Sang (eight place) and music singles like Priyanka Chopra’s Exotic and Honey Singh’s Blue Eyes.
Besides this, YouTube has also released an interactive video (check below) depicting the defining moments of 2013 across various video categories like spoofs or fake originals, gaming trailers, ads, how-to, videos for children, comedy, IPL and video tributes to Sachin Tendulkar after his retirement from Cricket last month.
