A total of 13.59 million Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) transactions worth Rs 6.08 billion were generated, for September 2013, according to the latest numbers from the Reserve Bank of India. This includes 8.74 million m-wallet transactions worth Rs 2.33 billion, 4.81 million PPI card transactions worth Rs 1.91 billion and 0.04 million paper voucher transactions worth Rs 1.84 billion. RBI however has not provided any break down across different types of wallet – closed wallet, open wallet, semi-closed and semi-open wallets. Volume of Transactions - The total number of PPI transactions stood at 13.59 million transactions for September 2013, a decrease from 14.12 million transactions in August 2013 and an increase from 12.4 million transactions in July 2013. - Among the different instruments, only m-Wallet transactions have seen an increase during the period July – September 2013. The number of transactions increased to 8.74 million transactions in September 2013 from 8.68 million transactions in August 2013 and 7.94 million transactions in December 2012. - PPI card transactions however decreased to 4.81 million transactions in September 2013 from 5.41 million in August 2013 and an increase from 4.41 million in July 2013. - Paper voucher transactions remained at 0.04 million transactions through August and September 2013, a decrease from 0.05 million transactions in July 2013. Value of Transactions - The total value of transactions has increased to Rs 6.08 billion in September 2013 from Rs 6.01 billion in August 2013 and decreased from Rs 6.18 billion in July 2013.
