DB Corp’s digital arm I Media Corp Ltd (IMCL), which manages the group’s website and mobile properties has reported increased losses of Rs 9.59 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2013 (FY13), a significant 46.4% increase from Rs 6.55 crore loss in FY12.

It reported a total income of Rs 12.2 crore for the fiscal, up 74.3% from Rs 7 crore revenues in FY12. This includes revenues from group portals dainikbhaskar.com, divyabhaskar.com, dailybhaskar.com, divyamarathi.com, e-papers of Dainik Bhaskar, Divya Bhaskar and Divya Marathi and mobile property 54567 which allows users to send messages consisting of images, audio, text and video. It also includes event management revenues, received by virtue of its merger with Synergy Media Entertainment Ltd (SMEL) in April 2012.

IMCL’s operational revenue stood at Rs 11.96 crore for the fiscal, up 98.7% from Rs 6.03 crore revenues in FY12, while its revenue from other sources was Rs 0.25 crore, down from Rs 0.98 crore in the previous fiscal.

IMCL Revenue Breakup: Advertising revenues were at Rs 10.33 crore for the fiscal, up 80.91% from Rs 5.71 crore in FY12. It accounted for 86% of IMCL’s operational revenues in FY13.

Portal revenues was at Rs 0.18 crore for the fiscal, down 10% from 0.2 crore in FY12 while the SMS revenues saw a massive decline to Rs 14,719 from Rs 0.11 crore in FY12. Event Management revenues was at Rs 1.45 crore for the fiscal.

DB Corp Revenues

Note that there is a mismatch between the portal revenues reported for FY12 in the current annual report and in the previous annual report. However, the company hadn’t disclosed advertising revenues for IMCL in the previous annual report. Its currently not clear as to what now constitutes portal revenues, since the company hasn’t provided any specific information on it.

Portal Metrics: Dainik Bhaskar claimed that its portals recorded a cumulative 10 million unique visitors per month, with Dainik Bhaskar accounting for 6.3 million unique monthly visitors, Divya Bhaskar accounting for 2.1 million unique monthly visitors, Daily Bhaskar accounting for 1.4 million unique monthly visitors and Divya Marathi accounting for the remaining 0.2 million unique monthly visitors.

Strangely, the company had quoted the same number for Dainik Bhaskar last year, although there seems to be a marginal increase in terms of overall visitors to 10 million from 9 million unique visitors last year.

Besides this, the company also claimed that users visited around 14.56 pages per visit and spent an average 12.44 minutes on the site.

Demerger of Internet Business into DB Corp: Earlier this month, DB Corp had proposed to demerge the integrated Internet and Mobile Interactive services business from IMCL to the holding company DB Corp with effect from April 1, 2013. The company informed that it has started the process of obtaining all the approvals and the demerger is expected to be completed in 2013-2014. Following the demerger, IMCL will continue its events business.

In December 2012, DB Corp had acquired 4.73 lakh equity shares (4,72,500 equity shares) which accounted for 45% stake in IMCL for Rs 35.6 crore. It had also paid an additional Rs 2.37 crore to acquire 43.10% stake in SMEL. Following this, both IMCL and SMEL had become wholly owned subsidiaries of DB Corp.
