Telenor group has appointed Vivek Sood as the Chief Executive Officer of Uninor, effective from December 1, 2014. Telenor mentions that the current CEO Morten Karlsen Sørby is stepping down as Uninor CEO and taking a new role in Telenor group due to illness in his immediate family. Sørby will however remain as an advisor to Uninor until January 1, 2015. Sood was previously the CEO of Telenor's Bangladesh subsidiary Grameenphone for about two years. Before that he was serving as the CFO of Uninor and has been with the Telenor group since January 2011. He's also worked at Tata AIG life Insurance, Hutchison Telecom, Tupperware India and Hindustan Lever Limited (Unilever). Telenor has also promoted Upanga Dutta as the chief marketing officer of Uninor. He will be taking over from Rajeev Sethi who has joined as the CEO of Grameenphone. Dutta was previously serving as the executive vice president and circle business head of Uninor's largest circle UP East. He's also worked as Uninor's business head for Mumbai circle. Before Uninor, he's had stints at Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel and Carrier Aircon. Management Changes at Uninor Over the past year, Uninor has witnessed quite a few changes in its top management. Former Grameenphone CTO Tanveer Mohammed was appointed as Uninor CTO in July this year. In March, Vivek Anand was appointed as Uninor CFO after Prasoon Sinha was promoted to a global leadership role. Sørby itself had joined Uninor in January this year, after the former CEO Yogesh Malik quit in November 2013 citing personal reasons.
