Updated below: Nivio, a cloud computing focused company, which offers solutions such as remote desktops and thin clients, has raised $21 million from Videocon & Group companies and US based PE firm, AEC Partners.The company intends to use the funding to support expansion of engineering efforts at its Palo Alto (CA, USA) office and for rolling out its cloud platform across its operating regions in Europe, Middle East, India and Australia. Although, Videocon makes mobile phones and offers a DTH service, we're still not sure how the move will benefit it. Update: As Pluggd.in notes, there's a family connection to the funding, since Saurabh P Dhoot, one of the co-founders of Novio is Videocon chairman Venugopal Dhoot’s nephew. It also reports that post funding, the company will get access to Videocon's reseller network to sell its desktop virtualization suite. Nivio, which has been offering its platform on select thin client devices through tie-ups with ISPs like Airtel in India, intends to launch virtual desktop clients across several platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows and Mac, along with an HTML5 client which will work with any standard web browser (with HTML5 support). Through the client, Nivio will offer users, access to a full Microsoft Windows OS, applications like MS Office and 10 GB of storage space on its servers.
