News broadcaster Times Now has relaunched its website TimesNow.tv. The site is still in beta and, interestingly, appears to be primarily focussed on videos but is not really like NDTV’s Tubaah.com. TimesNow.tv has more of a newsy feel to it, and has been developed by sister concern Indiatimes. We had reported earlier about NDTV Convergence launching Tubaah.com.
The focus on videos is of interest to us, primarily because of the groups plans for video content with the Times Audience Network, which we had covered earlier. Live streaming, weekend shows such as The Foodie and Times Drive, short shows on sports and entertainment as well as a selection of most popular shows are available on the site. Strangely enough, Times Now videos on Bigadda.com have not been updated for three weeks now. Were there no videos from Times Now while the site was being redesigned?
Text Mostly From Wires, Timing Of Launch, Lack Of Cross Media
Most of the articles on the site appear to be from agencies, rather than BCCL group newspapers Times of India and Economic Times. For a user on the net, it really doesn’t matter if Times Now is a TV channel or a newspaper – the medium allows it, and the site should have a healthy mix of original video and text content. Unlike competitor CNN-IBN and their election siteIBNPolitics.com, which has sourced video questions for TV shows via the Internet (much like CNN did with YouTube), TimesNow.tv lacks cross-media integration. Ideally, the website should contribute to the TV channel and vice-versa; the website shouldn’t just be a repositary.
We also wonder why Times Now was relaunched so close to the Indian Elections and the IPL: they do appear to have missed out on the build-up to the two largest media events in India, so far.
