Viren Popli, STAR SVP & Head of Mobile Entertainment Puts In His Papers

Viren Popli, SVP & Head of Mobile Entertainment for STAR India has put in his papers, MediaNama has learned. We're told that he has just finished talking to his team about his move. Popli will join as COO of a Media company, but we're yet to ascertain which. He has been an outspoken proponent for transparency in the way telecom operators deal with content companies. Popli had been with News Corp owned STAR for over 9 years, prior to which he was at Ranbaxy for almost six years. Popli  set up Stars Mobile Entertainment division, and with his team, was responsible for the execution of almost 500 different interactive activities using text, voice and data services across STAR’s 11 channels over the past 3 years, including Kaun Banega Crorepati. Among their launches is Plus, which was intended to be an independent application which allows users access to multiple interactive services including banking information, ticketing, and content like yellow pages, news, entertainment videos etc. Popli's a member of FICCIs Digital Entertainment Committee and the CIIs Mobile Value Added Services Committee.
