It seems that Ola is now looking to further diversify its services by foraying into grocery delivery as a business. Ola has put up an advertisement on BabaJobs where they are looking to hire delivery executives in the Brookefields, Marattahalli, Koramangala and Channasandra areas of Bangalore. (h/t: Jery Althaf) The requirements in the ad point to a more interesting picture where they mention that the delivery executives must possess motorcycles. It would seem that Ola is probably moving away from cars as a delivery medium and it makes sense as motorcycles are a lot more suited for quick deliveries. The job posting also says that the delivery executives will have to work in two shifts and operations seem to be from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Its competitor, Uber also has a similar service in the US called Uber Essentials and it also looks like Ola is trying to beat them in India by having the first mover's advantage. With this move, Ola will also be competing against other online grocery delivery companies such as PepperTap, LocalBanya, ZopNow, Grofers and Godrej's Nature's Basket. Earlier this year, Amazon also launched an express delivery platform called KiranaNow to make everyday consumer products available to its users in Bangalore. Amazon will partner with local kirana (grocery) stores to offer this service. The service was in a pilot stage in Bangalore and Amazon is likely to launch it in other cities in the future.
