Jonathan Bill, SVP, Innovation & Business Development, for Vodafone in India has left the company following his stint on special assignment to India. He will be returning to India after a brief break, and will take up an entrepreneurial opportunity, apart from taking advisory positions. "(India is) Too great a market to leave behind and return to UK. I am very bullish on the India Internet / mobile Internet market and will be participating in it as an entrepreneur. I have turned down various corporate offers in favour of smaller, more agile and more fun! Has been a great tenure in Vodafone India and we've achieved some great things," he texted in response to a query from MediaNama. Bill had moved to India for driving the data business, and was instrumental in two key changes in the telecom ecosystem - firstly, a change to the 70-30 revenue share situation, which allowed partners to receive a bulk of the revenue share, and secondly, the (planned) opening up of Vodafone's API, to allow more content and services business to deploy telecom operator payment gateways without significant intervention from the telecom operator. We can only hope that these policies remain, since they in building an open ecosystem, and address a long standing problem that business.
