Internet content delivery network Akamai Technologies has released its ‘State of the Internet’ report for the third quarter of 2012, which was generated based on the data gathered from the Akamai Intelligent Platform, and provides a sneak peek at statistics such as Internet penetration, mobile traffic and data consumption, global and regional connection speeds, and observed attack traffic, across the world. Download : Report | Press Release Avg Connection Speed: The average connection speed in India stood slightly above 1.0 Mbps, up 2.5% from the previous quarter and 11% year-on-year (YoY). India is currently ranked 120th in terms of average connection speed and has the lowest average connection speed among the Asian countries measured in the report. The global average connection speed declined to 2.8 Mbps, a 6.8% dip from 3 Mbps in the previous quarter but a 11% increase YoY. South Korea continues to record the highest average connection speed with 14.7 Mbps, followed by Japan which has an average connection speed of 10.5Mbps and Hong Kong which has an average connection speed of 9 Mbps. Avg Peak Connection Speed: The average peak connection speed in the country stood at 8 Mbps, a 9.3% increase from 7.3 Mbps in the previous quarter and a 39% increase YoY. India is currently ranked 115th in terms of average peak connection speed and has the second lowest average peak connection speed among the Asian countries measured in the report, followed only by China which has an average peak connection speed of 7.1 Mbps.
