With 2012 coming to an end in a fortnight, Google recently released its annual analysis of the most searched terms, top celebrities, top movies, top travel destinations and top news of the year called Google Zeitgeist 2012. The company claimed that it witnessed 1.2 trillion searches in 146 languages in 2012, although it didn't disclose any country-wise breakup of these searches. Here are some of India-specific trends mentioned in the Google Zeitgeist 2012: Top Searches The banking exam 'IBPS' (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) was the most searched term on Google from the country, followed by 'GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) Exams' which stood second. 'Sunny Leone' ranked third in the top searches while Bollywood films 'Ek Tha Tiger' and 'Rowdy Rathore' ranked fourth and fifth respectively in top searches list. The Indian government's ambitious low-cost education focused tablet 'Aakash Tablet' which was recently in the controversy for being manufactured in China, also found a mention in the list at the eight place while the Rocket Internet-backed eCommerce venture 'Jabong' took the tenth place in the list. Other searches in the list include CBSE (Central Board for Secondary Education) at the sixth place, Rajesh Khanna at the seventh place and HDFC at the ninth place. Most Searched News Sensex was the most searched news item in the country, followed by the death of the former Minister for Science and Technology and Minister for Earth Sciences, the late Vilasrao Deshmukh.
