The Indian telecom regulator has informed that, according to data provided by service providers, as many as 29.24 million subscribers submitted number porting requests during the month of December in 2011, as compared to 25.83 million porting requests in November 2011, an increase of 13.17% month on month. The maximum number of requests in Zone-I(North and West India),have been received in Gujarat at 27.68 lakh where MNP was introduced in January 2011. Haryana, where the service was made available in November 2010, received a total of 13.45 lakh porting requests. Jammu & Kashmir registered the lowest number of requests at 4793. In Zone-II(South and East India), Karnataka leads, with 28.33 lakh customers requesting for number porting, followed by Andhra Pradesh, which received 26.87 lakh requests. There were just 18,271 requests from the North East circle. Note that TRAI has not provided the operator wise information.
