Salesforce.com, the world leading on-demand Customer Relationship Management (CRM) company has acquired Hyderabad based DimDim for $31 million. DimDim is a cloud based web conferencing company founded by DD Ganguly and Prakash Khot, and had in the past raised around $8.4 million in two rounds of venture funding Nexus Venture Partners, Index Ventures and Draper Richards. DimDim allows screen sharing, presenting and real time collaboration. It competes with other web conferencing companies like. It competes with Cisco owned WebEx, Vyew, OpenACircle, or even 3D based collaboration software VenueGen. VCCircle had reported the possibility of the acquisition in November last year. Salesforce.com will use the acquisition to bring new real-time communication capabilities to its Salesforce Chatter collaboration platform, which has over 60,000 customers. Interestingly, DimDim, which is Open Source, has its software available for download, though comments suggest that the software made available is significantly outdated. What Changes For DimDim Users? Following the acquisition, DimDim is no longer accepting any new registrations. Monthly accounts will be available until March 15, and annual accounts are available until their current subscription ends. Following the expiry of accounts, recordings, uploaded documents and chat transcripts will no longer be available; they can be downloaded, though.
