GETIT Infoservices, the Delhi based classifieds business, has launched iPhone apps for its Getit business directory and Free Ads classifieds services. Last month, the company had launched mobile optimized web sites & an SMS browser app, and had said that it plans to launch native apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian. Although the apps are free to download, we did notice some ads running inside the app, so it appears that Getit is monetizing its apps through advertising. (Note: a detailed review of the GETIT & FreeAds Apps at AppNama) Similar to their respective mobile web sites, the GETIT and FreeAds apps feature popular categories, different browsing options and advanced search options based on user preferences and location. The biggest advantage of getting a native app is the ability to integrate with the phone's native software. Although, there is not much scope for that in a Yellow pages and Classifieds apps, the apps still offer good integration with the phone's location services and native phonebook. The apps offer a well designed user interface, optimizing the services for a touch screen, and making browsing through classifieds and listings, more convenient. The FreeAds app's carousel based category menu looks interesting, although it does not offer any significant value addition. With every service introducing a native app, we also wonder if users will actually use all of them, or just download and forget.
