Hungama Game Studio has renamed GamingHungama.com to TheGameBox.com. The portal offers Flash based casual games in various categories including logic and puzzle, racing and sports, Bollywood, action,and word games, among others.. Hungama Game Studio has also collaborated with Exponential Entertainment to launch Hollywood and Bollywood based games on the website.

Social Gaming

The social element comes in with Facebook and Twitter integration to invite friends from the social networks to play or network with other Game Box users, chat, compare scores and challenge them. The site has been designed like a social networking site, with profile views, friend lists, feeds from all users as well as a personal feed. The home page displays popular games for Quick Play, a list of the top 10 games, Challenges and score leader board.

Although games can be played without registering on the site, the social features are usable only after the sign-up. Each user gets a profile page complete with personal information, friend list, list of recently played games, game medals, comments, challenges played, top scores and favorites.

Games

In addition to playing games online, users can also download games in .swf format. At the time of writing this post, the site features more than 130 games.The portal features games across various genres including arcade games like Hop Skip n Jump, Toss The Coin, Loadshifter, Diva , strategy games such as Sudoku, Classic Chekers, Word Burst  and 5 in line, and yes the Bollywood game section with games based on specific movies like Ready, Love Aaj Kal, Om Shanti Om, Kurbaan and Billu Barber.

There are some really funny games like Poll Prachar, where you select your neta and fire him like a cannon ball to cover the maximum number of houses. On the other hand a game called Xio Wants Stars is heavily inspired from the popular iOS game Cut The Rope. We were not able to find multiplayer games.

Developers & Monetization

Interestingly, there is a page for developers to submit their games to Hungama and choose a sponsorship option to upload the game with Hungama’s API, make it eligible for revenue sharing, sell the game to them and even let the hungama team to take the content to brands, license and share the revenue with the developer.

The site is still in Alpha testing stage at this time, however, it seems that advertising and brand partnerships will be the preferred monetization model for The Game Box. We infer this from the ads that are displayed in the 15 second delay period, before the game loads, similar to Zapak.com. Right now, it just displays ads for other games but will probably be used for ads. The promoted games list on the home page is also indicative of this.
