"It’s not always easy to motivate yourself to exercise, but the option to feel the burn and then directly transition into one of your favourite shows does have a certain appeal. And now, that’s exactly what you can do," Netflix remarked late last month while announcing its partnership with Nike to bring workout videos to the streaming platform. Quite an interesting foray for a platform that is largely used while sitting on the couch or lying in bed. As part of this partnership, Netflix is bringing workout programs from the popular Nike Training Club app, with each program consisting of multiple episodes. The first batch of five workout programs launched on December 30 (timed perfectly to capitalise on the new year resolutions) and the second batch is expected to launch sometime this year. Why is this interesting: The last couple of years haven't been the best for Netflix with the company's growth slowing and competition (for users' time) being fierce. To improve its state of affairs, Netflix has tried all sorts of things from cracking down on password sharing to launching an ad-supported version to introducing gaming on the platform. The latest partnership with Nike adds to this list of bets. Personally, I wouldn't pay for a Netflix subscription just for the workout videos because these Nike Training Club videos are free on the NTC app and there are plenty of other free workout resources on the internet as well.
