Netflix has added a tool which will allow users to control how much mobile data the use by allowing them to reduce quality of streams. CEO Reed Hastings had announced that Netflix would be introducing the same during the quarterly earnings. To specify the data usage, users need to go Netflix's apps settings. Tap on 'Cellular data usage' and switch off the default option. Users then can specify the data usage setting manually. However, the new tool is available on the latest version of the app. The low setting allows users to watch four hours per GB, medium setting lets users watch two hours per GB and high allows one hour per GB. It also has option to watch only on WiFi or Unlimited. The default setting allows three hours per GB. That currently amounts to about 600 Kilobits per second, Netflix said on its blog. Offline viewing Hastings also mentioned that Netflix would keep an "open mind" about offline viewing. "As we expand around the world, where we see an uneven set of networks, it’s something we should keep an open mind about.” he added. Netflix blocks VPNs In January, Netflix employed measures to stop members from using proxies or ‘unblockers’ from accessing content from other countries. Consequently, this will stop users from using proxy servers, virtual private networks (VPN) or other content unblocking services, to access Netflix content not available in their country.
