National Restaurant Association of India appoints Anurag Katriar as new president

The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has appointed Anurag Katriar as its new president. Katriar is the CEO of deGustibus Hospitality that runs Indigo Deli restaurant chain. He will replace Rahul Singh, CEO of The Beer Café, whose tenure has come to an end. Read it here

US antitrust officials investigate Amazon’s marketplace practices

While the Competition Commission of India dismissed All India Online Vendor’s Association’s (AIOVA) complaint that Flipkart used its dominant position to favour certain sellers through “unfair or discriminatory pricing”, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of USA has reportedly begun interviewing small sellers on Amazon to ascertain if the company is using its market power to hurt competition, Los Angeles Times and Bloomberg reported. The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has extended the deadline to submit comments on draft E-Commerce Guidelines for Consumer Protection 2019 to October 31 from September 16. Read it here

NPCI planning to restrict UPI payment company marketshares to 33% is terrible policy and makes no sense

Google announced support for tokenised cards in the Google Pay app on September 19, at the Google for India event held in New Delhi. Tokenised cards are digital representations of physical credit and debit cards, so users don’t have to carry physical cards with them. Read it here

Increasing support for Indic languages was a big theme at Google’s annual Google for India event here in New Delhi. Chennai-based KPost says traceability is possible, wants to be impleaded in WhatsApp case

Claiming that tracing the origin of message is technically possible, Chennai-based KPost Software wants to be impleaded in the ongoing WhatsApp traceability case in the Madras High Court.
