The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has extended the deadline to submit comments on draft E-Commerce Guidelines for Consumer Protection 2019 to October 31 from September 16. Views, comments and/or suggestions can be sent to email@example.com. Several stakeholders, including state governments, had asked the DCA to provide more time to make their submissions.
The DCA had released the Draft E-commerce Guidelines for Consumer Protection, meant to protect consumers who shop online, on August 2. The draft was open for stakeholders’ comments for 45 days. It seeks to prevent fraud and unfair practices in e-commerce and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. These guidelines apply to ‘B2C e-consumers, included goods, services and “digital content products”‘, provide conditions for carrying out e-commerce in India. It also lays out liabilities of e-commerce entities and of the sellers associated with them. Finally, it provides a procedure for consumer grievance redressal.
