MediaNama invites you to apply to attend our Roundtable on Regulation of Online Content, being held at the India Habitat Centre on September 26th (Thursday) 2019.
You can apply here: bit.ly/onlinecontentroundtable
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is setting up a consultation for certification of online content. This comes at a time when there are court cases faced by online content services on the grounds of obscenity, defamation, consumption of content by children, and lack of regulatory structure. There are questions around censorship and certification, the jurisdiction of MIB, whether online content streaming is public or private viewing, and about how this might impact online content aggregators as well.
The challenge lies in the prevention of creation, sharing and consumption of illegal content and acts, while still preserving both the freedom to create, consume and share content. The discussion will look at the legal and policy issues around such a move, and the potential impact on the ubiquity of content on the Internet and balkanisation of the open web.
This is an invite-only session, and you can apply to attend here. Please feel free to suggest points of discussion and questions you think ought to be raised, in the application form.
Note: Registration does not guarantee attendance. In case you fit our mandate for the intended audience, we’ll send you a confirmation on or before September 23rd, 2019. Your contact information will never be shared with anyone outside of MediaNama.
