NRAI flags deep discounting, high commission charges, private labels in letter to food aggregators

Amidst the ongoing #Logout movement, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has sent letters to all food aggregators including Zomato, Swiggy, UberEATS, Foodpanda on August 26, flagging several issues such as lack of transparency, deep discounting and abuse of dominant position by the food aggregators. NASSCOM-DSCI on National Health Stack: separate regulatory body for health, siloed registries, usage of single ID

In its response to the Niti Aayog’s paper on the National Health Stack, industry body NASSCOM and DSCI suggested an independent regulatory body for oversight in the digital healthcare sector, “this is essential to ensure a system of checks and balances” said the two bodies in a joint submission to Niti Aayog. Reliance Jio records highest telecom revenue market share in Q1FY20

Reliance Jio pipped Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea and emerged as the top revenue earner from telecom services at Rs 10,900 crore in the quarter ending June 2019 according to a report (see below) by the financial and economic analysis division of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Bharti Airtel’s consolidated revenues for Q1FY20 stood at Rs 20,738 crore – an increase of 6.8% from the same quarter last year. However, it posted a net loss of Rs 2,866 crore in the first quarter of the financial year 2019-20 (Q1FY20), a massive fall of 3047% as compared to the same quarter last year (Q4FY19) when it posted a profit of Rs 97 crore; but that, the company said was because of its adaptation to a new telecom standard (IND AS116) and a one-time investment into it. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) may reject the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s (DPIIT) idea to include e-commerce data in the proposed Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill, the Economic Times reported. Read it here

Economic slowdown: Some sectors have slowed, other are doing well, says InfoEdge’s Hitesh Oberoi on Q1FY20 earnings call

InfoEdge increased marketing costs substantially in all its businesses, specifically in Naukri and Jeevansathi. Its overall marketing spend for Q1FY20 was around Rs. 55 crores, which was up 46% year-on-year, Info Edge MD and CEO Hitesh Oberoi said on a investor call on August 13. Read it here
