LinkedIn India appoints second country head in less than a year

Microsoft-owned professional social networking company LinkedIn has appointed Ashutosh Gupta as its new country manager for India. He will take over on September 2, and report to Olivier Legrand, LinkedIn’s managing director for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and China. He will be LinkedIn’s second India head in less than a year, replacing Mahesh Narayanan, who had joined the company as country manager for India in January 2019. Narayanan left LinkedIn to “pursue other opportunities in the country’s fast-growing digital ecosystem”, the Economic Times reported. During the 2-month interim period between Narayanan’s departure and Gupta’s assumption of the role, Legrand will be the interim country manager for India, LinkedIn clarified to MediaNama.

Gupta, an alumnus of IIT (BHU) and IIM Lucknow, joined LinkedIn in 2013 to head the company’s marketing solutions in India. He has also headed Google’s online sales and operations, and industry and technology services. In 2016, he moved to Singapore to lead online sales organisation for APAC. For his new role, he will relocate to India. “India is a strategic market for LinkedIn, and its developing economy and dynamic jobs market is ripe with opportunity for LinkedIn to add value for our members and customers,” Gupta said, according to LinkedIn’s press statement. He added that he is looking forward to “forging deeper government relationships to inform policy-making with actionable data on jobs and skills, and make LinkedIn an integral part of the national agenda.” On Gupta’s appointment, Legrand said, “I am confident that Ashutosh’s  strong understanding of the company’s business, his seasoned leadership experience, and deep market experience will drive forward the right strategic plans for India.”
