Amitabh Kant to serve as NITI Aayog CEO for another two years

The appointments committee of the cabinet has extended the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant for another two years from until June 30, 2021. Kant was appointed as CEO of the central government think tank in February 2016 for a two-year period. During his tenure, Kant was responsible for driving several initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, Incredible India and God’s Own Country. This development comes in after PM Narendra Modi approved the reconstitution of NITI Aayog earlier this month. Modi renamed Rajiv Kumar as the vice-chairman and appointed home minister Amit Shah as an ex-officio member. Additionally, defence minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar may be selected as ex-officio members. Amitabh Kant is a member of the IAS officer of the Kerala. Kant has also served as chairman and CEO of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corporation, CMD-ITDC, joint secretary at Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, secretary of tourism, Government of Kerala. He had also held the position of managing director at Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation, district collector at Kozikhode and managing director, Matsyafed.
