ALTBalaji sees 6x growth in revenue, 18x growth in subscriptions in FY19

ALTBalaji, the wholely owned subscription-based, video on demand subsidiary of Balaji Telefilms Limited, saw a 600% growth in revenue and an 1800% growth in subscriptions sold between FY18 and FY19.

Key metrics:

  • 20.1 million subscriptions sold in FY19
  • Revenue: 6x YoY, ₹6.8 crore in FY18 to ₹41.6 crore in FY19.
  • Subscriptions sold: 18x YoY, 1.2 million sold in FY2018 to 20.1 million in FY19; as of May 2019, total subscriptions sold were 23.5 million
  • 67% customers finish watching a series within 7 days of starting it

Content:

  • 5 multi-episode, original shows released in Q4FY19; total now 38
  • 18 original shows released in FY19
  • 9 existing shows renewed
  • More than 40 original songs produced for shows; monetisation through audio streaming apps
