Delhi HC seeks Centre’s response to petition challenging Aadhaar Ordinance

The Delhi High Court on Friday sought the Centre’s response to a petition challenging the constitutional validity of the recent Aadhaar Ordinance, reports LiveLaw. It gave the government until July 9 to respond. Read it here

TikTok introduces age gate, claims to have removed 6 million unlawful videos

Video-sharing app TikTok has introduced an age gate feature for new users, which will only allow those aged 13 years and above to create an account, the company said in a press release on Monday. Read it here

Network18’s digital revenue grew 7% YoY to Rs 49 Cr; MoneyControl Pro sees over 50% increase in subscribers: Q4FY19 earnings

Network18 reported consolidated revenue of Rs 1236 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2019 (Q4FY19), a fall of 19.6% from the previous quarter and an increase of 46% year-on-year. Profit after Tax reduced by 197% over the previous quarter, and reduced by 92% year-on-year. The company’s revenue from “Web Digital, Print & Others” actually fell by 13% over the previous quarter to Rs 49 crore. Read it here

Reliance Jio applies for in-flight connectivity licence: Report

Reliance Jio has applied to the Department of Telecom for an in-flight connectivity licence, reported the Economic Times, citing sources. The licence would allow it to offer mobile connectivity and data services on Indian and foreign airlines over Indian airspace for 10 years. Read it here

Google, Apple block download of TikTok in India as Madras HC refuses to overturn ban

Google and Apple have removed TikTok from their app stores in India at the direction of the Madras High Court, reports Reuters. Existing users can still use the app. The court has appointed senior advocate Arvind P Datar as amicus curiae to advice the court and assess TikTok’s ‘impact’; posting the matter for April 24. Russia’s parliament votes in law to allow an autonomous Russian Internet

Russia’s lower house of Parliament has passed a bill which would allow the country to create its own autonomous internet, reports Deutsche Welle. The law will allow Russia to set up infrastructure for separate Russian Internet or “Runet”, which will allow Russia to keep its domestic internet running even when unplugged from non-Russian root servers. UIDAI warns AP & Telangana of uploading land papers; Karnataka makes 5k students’ Aadhaar records public

The Unique Identity Authority of India’s (UIDAI) regional office in Hyderabad has asked the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to stop uploading property documents to their revenue websites as they were being used to illegally access Aadhaar data, reported the Times of India. Read it here

Twitter has taken down two communal tweets by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the Election Commission’s orders, reports the Economic Times. Posted on April 5, the tweets equated the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) with the ‘green virus’. Read it here

Rajkot Police writes to Google to disable PUBG app

The Rajkot police has written to Google requesting the company to remove PUBG Mobile from the Play Store in the jurisdiction of Rajkot city, reports Firstpost. The letter was in fact written last month, shortly after Rajkot police imposed the ban. Read it here
