The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has appointed Arif Khan as its Chief Digital Officer. Khan will be based out of Mumbai and lead strategic planning for digital transformation, innovation, analytics and technology.

Khan joins the payments body from RazorPay where he was the chief innovation officer since April 2017. Khan has spent 15 years with HDFC Bank where he worked on cards, payments gateways, mobile banking, micro ATMs, PoS service, and e-commerce among other things, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also had a brief stint at PwC India. Prior to Razorpay, he briefly worked on product development and innovation at MasterCard.
NPCI under RTI?
The Central Information Commission is currently hearing a petition which called for the NPCI coming under the RTI Act, given its ownership structure and products. In a hearing last week, NPCI representatives were absent from the hearing, and claimed that they were not notified.
