We had a full house in Bangalore last Friday, with more than 70 participants at our discussion on amendments to the IT Rules governing Safe Harbor for the Internet in India. Our discussions went an hour over time, and covered definitional issues around intermediaries, conditions for safe harbor, traceability and its challenges and legality, proactive removal, among several other issues. The Ministry of IT is taking comments on amendments (download) till the 31st of January. Next up is the Delhi discussion, on the 7th of February (2019) at the India Habitat Centre. You may apply to attend here: https://bit.ly/2MjFcBu This is during the counter-comments stage, so we will have comments filed by various entities to reference as well, which are expected to be made public by the 2nd of February. Counter comments may be filed by the 14th of February. MediaNama is hosting these discussions with support from Facebook, Google and Mozilla. Important: This discussion will be held under the Chatham House Rule: you may take notes and report on the content of the discussion without identifying any speaker or their organisation. Registration does not guarantee attendance. In case you fit our mandate for the intended audience, we’ll send you a confirmation note on or before Feb 3, 2019.
