ECI denies info about Aadhaar-voter ID linkage and the money spent on it

Update, 2 January 2019: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has further denied to provide information about the number of Voter IDs linked with Aadhaar. MediaNama had filed an appeal under the Right to Information Act, requesting for the information and documents that the ECI had earlier denied on the grounds that "no information is available in any physical form in record of the Commission." MediaNama, in its appeal, had also sought information on the money that was spent in the linking process, which the ECI had denied on the same grounds. Note that, in September 2018, Rajat Kumar, the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana had conceded that 8% or 22 lakh of the 2.8 crore voter names were deleted from the electoral roll. Kumar had accepted that the names were also deleted from the voter rolls in 2015 when the verification process was Aadhaar-based. This verification was eventually stopped after Supreme Court limited the use of Aadhaar and made it voluntary. At that time, Kumar mulled the possibility of name deletion due to a new software.
