ZEEL launches online ad platform for small retail advertisers

Zee Entertainment (ZEEL) has launched an online ad platform called Zeemitra.com for small retail advertisers to advertise on Zee’s TV channels. Users of the platform will be able to advertise on Zee TV, Zee Cinema and Zee News across 15 of ZEEL’s key markets like Mumbai, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, UP, Punjab etc. ZEEL will also offer an in-house creative team for advertisers to make TV creatives in motion graphics, and promote this platform through offline sales as well.

Zeemitra will use an algorithm to recommend an ‘ideal channel mix’ from 52 Zee channels (including general entertainment, regional news, lifestyle, movies etc) to advertisers to reach their target audience. ZEEL claims to have a reach of 686 million viewers across its cluster of channels.

Zee Media financials

Zee Media reported consolidated revenues of Rs 170 crore in the quarter ended September 2018 (Q2FY2019), which is an improvement of 35% over the same quarter last year and an increase of 9% over the preceding quarter. Its ad revenues were at Rs 149 crore and subscription revenues Rs 13 crore for the quarter. Note that Zee Media now operates only in television broadcasting.

ZEE5 developments

  • Last month, ZEEL and Reliance Jio signed a fresh deal, two months after a fallout over pricing agreements. Zee’s content, consisting of content from 37 live TV channels, is now available on all Jio apps.
  • ZEE5 also went international with a soft launch in over 190 new countries, ZEE5 users will be able to stream all its commissioned content for its TV channels, as well as Zee5 originals. (It has also made its content available on Xiaomi TVs.)
  • Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) entered into a content sharing partnership with Bharti Airtel. This development came within a month of ZEEL removing all content from Reliance owned Jio Digital Services.
