PhonePe transactions up 150% during Flipkart sale

Flipkart-backed PhonePe said that it saw a 150% growth in transactions during Flipkart’s 5 day ‘Big Billion Days’ festive season sale. Read it here

64% YoY growth in ecommerce sales during festive season, Flipkart dominates market: RedSeer

E-commerce retailers generated the highest in sales this year than in any previous year, according to a report by market research firm RedSeer Consulting. RedSeer’s analysis shows that the e-tailing industry generated Rs 15,000 crores in the 6-day sale, reflecting a 64% a year-on-year growth. In fact, the GMV of sales by Day 2 this year surpassed the GMV of the sale in the whole of last year’s season sales. Read it here

Paytm’s vice president of communications Sonia Dhawan, her husband Rupak Jain and Paytm staffer Devendra Kumar were arrested by Noida police for attempting to extort Rs 10 crore out of Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, reported The Indian Express. Crypto-exchange Unocoin’s ATM kiosk raided for unauthorized operations

Central Crime Branch officials raided an ATM kiosk run by cryptocurrency exchange Unocoin in a mall in Bangalore, reports the Bangalore Mirror. The police said the kiosk was installed and operating without any license. Read it here

Update: Flipkart and Amazon get notices from DCGI for allegedly selling adulterated cosmetics

Update at 4:45 pm: An IndiaMart spokesperson told MediaNama that it had not received any notice from the DCGI, nor were any raids been carried out on any premises of IndiaMart. The company also said that it is an intermediary, and does not carry out sale and purchase transactions. Read it here

Netflix’s independent assessment allows it to continue with Sacred Games team

Netflix will continue with its existing producers of “Sacred Games” for the second season after conducting an independent investigation into sexual harassment allegations, reports Reuters. Netflix will continue to work with Varun Grover, one of the writers of Sacred Games’ first season, and Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, whose production house Phantom Films produced the show. Airtel net profit falls by 65% YoY to Rs 119 Cr in Q2FY19

Bharti Airtel has reported a net profit of Rs 119 crore in the second quarter of the financial year 2018–19 (Q2FY19), a fall of 65% as compared to the same quarter last year (Q2FY18) when it posted a profit of Rs 343 crore. Twitter reports $758M in revenues driven by video ads in Q3FY18

Twitter reported 326 million MAUs in Q3FY18, 67 million MAUs from the US (68 million in Q2’18; 69 million in Q3 2017) and 259 million MAUs internationally (267 million in Q2’18; 260 million in Q3 2017), the company said in its earnings report. This represented a 4 million YoY decrease and 9 million QOQ decrease. Read it here
