Porting requests were submitted for 4.7 million connections in the month of August 2018, according to the data released by the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is down 2% from 4.84 million porting requests reported in July 2018. For the month of August, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received from Maharashtra at 0.51 million, followed by UP-East at 0.34 million, and Delhi at 0.33 million. On the flip side, the least number of requests were received from Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user bases among all states in the country, at only 10,000 requests. Note that TRAI does not provide any operator-wise breakdown for these mobile number porting requests. In Zone-II (South and East India), the maximum number of requests were received from Andhra Pradesh, with 0.45 million porting requests, followed by Karnataka at 0.33 million requests, while the number of requests received from Tamil Nadu stood at 0.31 million. The North East circle saw a drastic fall in the number of porting requests for the month, at 20,000, the same as previous month. Note that in November 2017, TRAI reduced the per port transaction charge for each successful Mobile Number Portability from Rs 19 to Rs 4. TRAI had capped the porting charge at Rs 19 in 2009, and operators were free to charge any amount less than this if they chose to. Download: TRAI Press Release
