Instagram has promoted Adam Mosseri (LinkedIn), VP of product, to head of Instagram. Mosseri will oversee business, hire a new executive team including head of engineering, head of product and head of operations.

Mosseri started as a product designer at Facebook in 2008, then went on as product design manager and design director for mobile. In 2012, he became the product manager for News Feed and Interfaces and Facebook Home. This was followed by a stint as VP, product management and then head of product at Instagram.

Facebook was quick to appoint Mosseri, just days after Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, the co-founders of Instagram, quit the company. The company has seen a string of top level exits, a large data breach, and public backlash from Brian Acton, WhatsApp co-founder.

Last month, Instagram COO Marne Levine moved to Facebook as VP of global partnerships and business development, a job held by longtime executive Dan Rose until recently.
