BigBasket acquires Morning Cart and Savis Retail

Along with RainCan, BigBasket has acquired Morning Cart, a Bangalore based “micro-delivery” platform which delivers groceries and related items before 8 am, and Savis Retail, another Bangalore-based company which provides and operates “smart” vending machines called Kwik24. Note that BigBasket announced all these acquisitions together. With RainCan and Morning Cart, BigBasket will foray into subscription based delivery of fruits, vegetables, staples etc. Apparently, the company has already done a soft launch of this service (now called BBDaily) in Pune and Bangalore with 20,000 subscriptions everyday, and plans to launch in 8 more metro cities, without mentioning a timeline. The hyperlocal grocery delivery service has also installed 100 Kwik24 smart vending machines across Bangalore and will also expand this service to other cities, again, without a timeline. These machines will come under BigBasket’s “BB Instant” service available as a separate app, where users can order through the app and pick up from the self-operated vending machine.  Founded in 2011, BigBasket now claims to have 10 million registered users and 100,000 daily orders. It has 20,000 products from 1000 brands available across 25 cities.
