UberEats to insure on road delivery personnel in India

Uber will now provide life insurance cover to its UberEats delivery fleet in partnership with Tata AIG. The benefit cover amounts to Rs 5 lakh against accidental death and permanent disability, for when the delivery fleet are on the road delivering for UberEats. It also covers Rs 2 lakh in medical expenses and outpatient cost of Rs 50,000, while the employees will not have to pay a premium for this cover. The insurance scheme became available to all UberEats delivery personnel in all 29 Indian cities starting this month. UberEats' competitor Swiggy also advertises for new delivery personnel offering an insurance cover of upto Rs 7 lakh, of which Rs 1 lakh is for accidental insurance and the rest for medical cover. Other benefits for drivers In 2016, Uber partnered with online insurance portal Coverfox to provide car insurance for its drivers under the UberCLUB driver rewards program. Uber’s primary rival Ola also started offering a comprehensive in-trip insurance programme for its driver-partners across the country in December 2017.
