After Paytm, PhonePe launches flight booking via GoIbibo

PhonePe has tied up with GoIbibo to provide flight booking in-app. PhonePe already has a tie-up with GoIbibo for hotel booking. This helps the Flipkart-owned payments app compete with Paytm in flight booking, albeit with the help of an outside aggregator. PhonePe has an 'Apps' section in its app which has a lightweight version of outside partner apps like Ola and redBus. This essentially expands the arrangement PhonePe has with MakeMyTrip, which owns GoIbibo. Recent PhonePe moves Earlier this month, PhonePe published a blog post supporting the contentious idea of data localisation. Foreign firms trying to evade the Reserve Bank of India's localisation mandate were trying to escape tax liability, PhonePe said. The company announced a deal this month with gateway PayU to appear as an option on the list of payment methods on PayU checkout. PhonePe processed 2 million offline transactions in August, and acquired hyperlocal PoS platform Hopper Retail in the previous month. PhonePe also announced a deal last month with IRCTC to appear as a payment option on the Rail Connect app. In August, Flipkart Payments infused Rs 451.66 crore into PhonePe. Prior to that, it invested Rs 518 crore in PhonePe. The investment is part of the $500 million commitment Flipkart made to invest in PhonePe last year, in addition to the $75 million funds infusion it made since acquiring PhonePe in 2015.
