Instamojo’s SmartLinks can send payment links via SMS, FB, WhatsApp

Instamojo has launched SmartLinks, a service that will enable customers to send payments links, which are basically web addresses, via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook etc. The recipient of these links can then make payments using Debit and Credit Cards, Net Banking, UPI, Wallets and NEFT.

SmartLinks will also enable users to send a single link to multiple people, collect customer shipping or GST details during payment and create time bound payment links where links expire after a certain time. Instamojo is targeting 1 million Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for SmartLinks across India.

It is worth noting that the company launched a credit lending platform called MojoCapital last month. According to a report, the service, launched in partnership with 12 NBFCs and multiple banks, will enable users borrow up to Rs 2,00,000.  The report also claimed that Instamojo will launch more credit based products in the coming months and aim to disburse loans worth Rs 40 crores in the next 12 months.

Founded in 2012 by Sampad Swain, Akash Gehani and Aditya Sengupta, the Bangalore based company claims to have a customer base of 5,00,000 and aims to grow five folds by 2020.

Recent developments at Instamojo

  • In April 2017, the company said that it was close to turning profitable and said that it turned EBITDA positive in July.
  • In August last year, it raised an undisclosed amount in pre-series B funding, led by Japanese payments firm AnyPay.
  • Before that, Instamojo had raised a Series A funding round of $5 million in 2014 from Kalaari Capital, Blume Ventures, 500Startups and others.
  • Prior to that, Instamojo had raised around $500,000 from 500 Startups, Blume Ventures and angel investors like Rajan Anandan, Sunil Kalra, Dave McClure, Rob de Heus, Thijs Gitmans, Pankaj Jain, Shailesh Rao, Bharathram Thothadri, and Avlesh Singh among others.
