Ajit Mohan, the former CEO of Hotstar, has been appointed as the new managing director and vice-president of Facebook India, reports ET Now. According to ET Now, Mohan will report to Facebook Headquarters in California, US, and not the APAC region office. He will be responsible for strategy and investments.

MediaNama has contacted Mohan and will update this if we hear from him.

Mohan succeeds Umang Bedi who quit the company in October 2017 to join Dailyhunt. The Facebook position had been vacant for close to a year now.

The search for a WhatsApp India head

Note that WhatsApp is also looking for an India head, notably both before and after the IT Ministry asked it to set up an office in the country. The person’s responsibilities would include payments, businesses, people, strategy etc (the position has been unfilled for at least 6 months). WhatsApp is also seeking a head of policy for the country.
