Zomato has appointed Rohithari Rajan as the Global Head for its ad sales business. Prior to this, he was working with Egon Zehnder, and was looking after digital practice in the Asia Pacific, and consumer, retail and media practice in India. Earlier Rohit was a Principal at Bain & Company, where he worked with Zomato’s founder Deepinder Goyal who was in the company from 2006 to 2009.
Rajan has previously worked with Hindustan Unilever, where he helped set up Shakti, a business initiative focused on rural India. He also worked with the United Nations Development Program in New York, developing a toolkit for pro-poor business models to deliver development goods in low-income regions, and helping the UNDP formulate its strategy for private sector engagement. He holds a degree of MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, and studies Economics from Delhi University.
Zomato, which recently turned 10, has a presence in about 10,000 cities across 24 countries.
This appointment is second senior-executive hiring in the company this month. Earlier, it appointed Mohit Gupta, as the CEO of the food delivery business at Zomato. Gupta was formerly at MakeMyTrip as the Chief Operating Officer – Online, has joined Zomato as the CEO of the food delivery business at Zomato,
Exits in Zomato
Note that besides new hiring, Zomato also saw exits of senior-level executives in the recent past, as the company locks horns with Swiggy in food delivery space. In June, company’s chief business officer Mukund Kulashekaran quit the company within less than five months after taking on the role of CBO from his earlier stint as global business head of online ordering. He was in that position since the launch of Zomato’s online delivery services in 2015.
Before that, about ten senior-level and mid-level executives left Zomato this year, including from the operations team in Australia and the UAE, and the global growth team in India. Only three months ago, the company’s co-founder Pankaj Chadda quit after spending 10 years there.
