Instagram has stopped notifying users about others screenshotting their Instagram Stories, reported Buzzfeed News. Earlier in the year, Instagram had started testing this feature with a few users as a security and privacy measure.
Taking a screenshot would previously result in a star-shaped icon showing up next to the handle of the person who took the screenshot, the star has now doesn’t appear.
Back in February, when Instagram began the test, it said that some users will receive a warning when they try to take a screenshot of someone’s Story for the first time. “Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see it.” Instagram had introduced the feature, which was pioneered by rival Snapchat, only for a few users initially, possibly because it felt fewer people would start seeing stories if they couldn’t screengrab them. Prior to this test the only screenshot notifications on Instagram were when someone took a screenshot of a private direct message.
Instagram did not elaborate on its rationale behind the change, reported The Next Web. The reports suggest the decision had likely to do with user engagement because nobody wants to be known as a compulsive Story screenshotter.
