The UIDAI has added enabled an option to download one’s Aadhaar update history. The facility is meant to be useful in case of migration and applications for other identification documents, jobs and social security benefits, among others.
Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI told The Economic Times that the updated history can be downloaded from the UIDAI website and can be used to support the assertion of address and other demographic and biometric data.
“Providing Aadhaar update history will bring in more trust and further empower people because they can now use their update history to the authorities while applying for jobs, school admissions, various services or benefits, etc., because in most such cases they are usually asked to provide their address for the last two or three years.” he said.
Currently, address, mobile number and language of enrollment can be updated at Permanent Enrollment Centres. Biometric information such as photograph and fingerprints can also be updated with individuals who enrolled between 5-15 years of age. Only the address can be updated on UIDAI’s portal.
Recent tweaks in Aadhaar
-In January 2018, the UIDAI announced that it will introduce ‘Face Authentication’ to address failures in fingerprint and iris authentication.
-In April 2018, the UIDAI enabled a page for generating Virtual ID numbers. A VID is a randomly generated 16 digit number that can be used for authentication in the place of an individual’s actual Aadhaar number. The Aadhaar number has been proliferated across databases already, and the use of a Virtual ID cannot undo this.
