Uber elevates its India head Amit Jain as Regional GM for APAC region

Uber has elevated its India and South Asia head Amit Jain as a Regional General Manager for Asia Pacific region, reports PTI. In his new role, Jain will be responsible for scaling up Uber’s operation in APAC region, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and North Asia, India and South Asia.

It is unclear if/when Uber will appoint a new head for India, we have written to Uber and will update this info as soon as we hear back from them.

Jain had joined Uber India in May 2015. Prior to Uber, he worked with a US-based company Rent.com for two years. He was also a member of the board of Directors at ReSurge International in the same time period and was previously a senior advisor, field operations at TPG Capital for three years. He also worked as the VP of transformation at Nexeo Solutions for around a year, before which he was an associate partner at McKinsey & Company for six years. Prior to this, he was a consultant at Deloitte Consulting for around 3 years

Note that this development comes at the time when Uber’s rival in India- Ola- is expanding in Australia, and is looking at expansion in other counties such as New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and has teams in Dhaka and Colombo.
