Infibeam acquires Snapdeal’s subsidiary Unicommerce for Rs 120cr

Ecommerce and software services company Infibeam has announced that it is acquiring Snapdeal’s subsidiary Unicommerce, which is an e-commerce management platform for Rs 120 crore. The transaction is expected to close in three-five months.

In its BSE filing, Infibeam said the acquisition will help the company to expand and strengthen its e-commerce web service offerings and capabilities. Read it here

FSMI expresses concern about Aadhaar Enrolment Software security

The Free Software Movement of India has published an open letter addressed to Dr. AB Pandey, CEO of the UIDAI regarding “Security of the Aadhaar personal data and ECMP Software”. The letter describes the coverage of the ECMP Aadhaar Enrolment Software hack reported by Asia Times and draws the notice of the UIDAI to WhatsApp messages circulating about the patched version of the software. TRAI issues draft amendment to telecom interconnection regulations

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released draft amendments to the telecommunication interconnection regulations. Most amendments govern the point of interaction (POI) between different telcos. The draft is open for comments from stakeholders till May 18. Read it here

Ecom Express expands delivery network, claims 100% coverage in 20 states

E-commerce logistics solutions provider Ecom Express Private Limited has announced an expansion of its services by 8000 PIN codes in India, thus, expanding its reach from 17,000 PIN codes to over 25,000.

In a statement, the company said that its network now covers 100% PIN codes in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. As part of the expansion, Ecom Express has opened new 800 delivery centers to cater to rural and remote locations of these eight states. Read it here

Update: Walmart agrees to buy 77% stake in Flipkart for $16 billion

Updated story (5.20 pm): Walmart has agreed to buy roughly a 77% stake in Indian online shopping site Flipkart for $16 billion. This makes it the US retail giant’s biggest investment ever as it looks to take the fight to global rival Amazon in one of its key markets, India. Read it here

WhatsApp allows Facebook and Instagram videos to be played in-app

WhatsApp has added support to Facebook and Instagram videos on its app, meaning videos native to these applications can be played within WhatsApp without leaving the app. With the picture-in-picture feature, a user can also continue watching the video while moving between other chats in the app. Read it here

Total number of POS machines grew 24% YoY to 3.14M in March 2018

The number of point of sale (POS) machines increased to 3.14 million in March 2018, up 24% from 2.53 million in March last year, according to data published by RBI. Note that the RBI data only shows machine statistics from banks and does not include the number devices from third-party players like MSwipe, Ezetap, ItzCash and Oxigen. Read it here

ZEEL ad revenues rose 24% in Q4FY18; ZEE5 to focus on regional content

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), which operates entertainment channels such as Zee TV and Zee Cinema reported consolidated revenue of Rs 1813 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2018 (Q4 FY18). This represents an increase of 14.5% from Rs 1583 crore in the same quarter last year. In the previous quarter, the total revenues stood at Rs 1886 crore. Read it here
