Amazon has signed a content deal with Disney India to make Amazon Prime Video the streaming home for seven upcoming international titles from Marvel and ABC. These shows will be available to Prime members in India immediately after they premiere in the US. Note that Disney is not renewing its US deal with Netflix. The seven shows include four new Marvel series, including Inhumans and Runaways, that are already available to stream, as well as Cloak and Dagger and three ABC series including The Crossing, Station 19 and the already available show - Freeform’s Alone Together. Additionally, Prime members can watch complete seasons of international series, including Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Castle, Scandal and Scrubs which were available on the platform already. Disney in India In India, Disney and Hotstar signed a multi-year distribution deal last year, which comprised Disney’s animated films, Lucasfilm productions, live-action Marvel superhero flicks, and Pixar films. In November last year, The Walt Disney Company named Abhishek Maheshwari as its new Country Head for India, who reports to Mahesh Samat, Executive Vice President & Managing Director, Walt Disney International, South Asia. India has been merged under a South Asian hub clubbed with Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam under the leadership of Samat. The Walt Disney Company is reportedly focusing on driving its Hollywood slate in India. Besides video streaming, Disney India also partnered with event and movies ticketing platform BookMyShow to stage Broadway musical Aladdin locally in India.
